Bio

Bruce R Gilbert, MD, PhD, is a board-certified urologist in Great Neck, Long Island, New York. Dr. Gilbert has worked in his Great Neck’s private practice for over 30 years. He specializes in reproductive and sexual medicine, men’s hormone treatments,  and fertility preservation.

Dr. Gilbert has completed over 1,000 microsurgical procedures. He is a leader and educator in fertility preservation. He has patients traveling nationally and Internationally for testicular sperm extraction (TESE) and microsurgical testicular sperm retrieval (microTESE).

Dr. Gilbert is the medical and lab director of the Men’s Fertility Laboratory, which performs basic and advanced semen analysis testing, and New York Cryo, a long-term reproductive tissue bank for sperm and other reproductive tissues.. He’s nationally recognized for using holistic approaches to treat chronic urology problems.

Dr. Gilbert is licensed in medicine and surgery in New York and Florida and medical acupuncture in New York. He is board-certified by the American Board of Urology, American Board of Bioanalysis, and American Board of Medical Acupuncture.

Dr. Gilbert holds a NY State Certificate of Qualification (CQ) in Andrology, Chemistry (urine analysis), and Endocrinology (andrology testing).

He earned his medical degree (MD) at Cornell University Medical College in New York City and his PhD at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. He completed postdoctoral work in renal physiology, supported by the New York Heart Association in the Department of Physiology at Cornell University Medical College.

Dr. Gilbert completed residencies in urology at New York–Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, both in New York City. He completed a surgical residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York City.

He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), and the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture (AAMA). Dr. Gilbert is affiliated with Northwell Health, including the North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York; Glen Cove Hospital in Glen Cove, New York; and Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, Queens, New York.

He is a professor of urology at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell in Hempstead, New York, and director of reproductive and sexual medicine at the Smith Institute for Urology in New Hyde Park, New York.

As an expert in urologic ultrasound and male fertility, Dr. Gilbert has authored more than 100 research publications. He serves as a reviewer for numerous reproductive, urological, complementary medicine, and reproductive medicine journals.

He has also edited and authored four nationally acclaimed textbooks on urologic ultrasounds. He has organized training programs in urologic ultrasound and microsurgery and has participated in local, national, and international lectures.

When he’s not in the office, Dr. Gilbert loves spending time with his wife, two children, and five grandchildren, boating and golfing. He is also an instrument-rated pilot. He also enjoys writing and published his first novel, a medical thriller titled “Inborn Error.”

If you need to cancel, please do so as early as possible. Appointments canceled at least 24 hours in advance for Tuesday–Friday visits, or at least 72 hours in advance for Monday visits, will not incur any cancellation fees. If a cancellation occurs after these windows—or if you do not attend your appointment—a $75 late-cancellation/no-show fee may be charged.
